Poems For Your Heart

$8.99

After my second husband died, these poems started coming to me. The first one was When Widowed, on pp. 14-15. Some are sad, some funny, all are thoughtful. Some are more structured, some less so, and they cover a wide variety of topics. They are still coming, though not as often right now, and at some point I’ll publish a second book of poems, called Poems For Our Time.

Description

Poems For Your Heart is a collection of 57 personal poems I’ve written over the last 20 years or so and they cover many topics such as: cats, the Rocky Mountains, love, childhood events, unemployment, death, and music. Some are amusing, some sad, some thoughtful. It would make a terrific Christmas gift! It is just 5″ x 8″ and 90 pages.

On pp. 52-3 of the book is a poem I wrote in response to one by ee cummings. You can read the ee cummings poem here.

As a sample, here is the first poem in the book:

Green
With a wink to Kermit the Frog

Green is seeping back into our world
Replacing brown and gray;
Quiet and pale and hoping the snow
Won’t be coming back our way.
No it’s not easy being green
In a Colorado Spring,
And being yellow or blue or pink
Is not as simple as you might think,
When snow and wind can easily sink
And whisk away your work
And break and bend, undo, and send you
Back where you began.

But how many eons has Spring prevailed
While Winter raged his worst?
Winter can bluster and lay it on thick,
But a smile and persistence do the trick.
